This project is part of AMPER (Atlas Multimedia Romanesque Space Prosody). AMPER is a European-wide project that aims at studying intonation of Romance languages. It aims to design computational tools for the analysis of prosodic dialectal data. That includes, among others, dialectometry and prosodic transcription.

 


Prosody of Catalan and Spanish in the Catalan-speaking areas and in Murcia (AMPERCAT): Finalization of the analysis of laboratory speech and spontaneous speech

This project is the last phase of a reseach on the prosody of statements and yes-no questions in the Catalan and Spanish dialects spoken in the Catalans-speaking areas and in Murica. This research begun in 2003 and it is part of an international project coordinated by the Centre of Dialectologie and GIPSA -lab of the Université Stendhal -Grenoble III (France ). Data are collected in a large Multimedia Atlas that includes a data of the different prosodic varieties of Romance language spoken in Europe and America. With this project, that is a follow-up of the previous project , we intend to finalize the collaction and analysis of the data from Catalonia, Aragon, Valencia , Balearic Islands and Murcia, in addition to the town of Alghero, Andorra and Northern Catalonia (France).


Towards a geoprosodic description of Catalan and Spanish in Catalan-speaking areas and of Spanish in Murcia (AMPERCAT)

The main focus is phonetic, but phonological, dialectological and sociolinguistic implications  are taken into account, too. The main objective is to study the intonation of the Romance languages ​​of Europe and to present the results by means of interactive maps that are made available on the internet. The sentence-types studies are broad focus statements and information-seeking yes-no questions. Our team coordinates the study of Catalan, Castilian and Galician in the Iberian Peninsula to be carried out in different working groups and carries out the study of the intonation of Catalan and of the Spanish variety spoken in Catalonia.

Contribution to the multimedia atlas of prosodic patterns of the romance languages in Catalonia (AMPER-CAT)

The aim of this project is to carry out a geolinguistic study of the prosody of declarative and interrogative sentences for varieties of Romance languages in Catalonia. The objective is to create a multimedia map that includes prosodic differences between Romance varieties. This project is part of a larger one located at and directed by the "Centre de dialectologie" at the "Université Stendhal-Grenoble III". This centre is designing an atlas of prosodic patterns of the Romance languages in Europe. These multimedia maps will be accessible for contrastive analysis of different pronunciation patterns of declarative and interrogative sentences in Romance languages to any researcher, teacher or anyone interested in the above-mentioned languages.
 


The prosodic features in a speech perception model

This investigation project was a continuation of the immediately previous one so that the pattern had theoretical coherence and practice. This way, after obtaining the phonemes chain we intended to study the prosodic features that allowed to segment the chain and to complete this way the program of automatic recognition.
 


Implementation of a model of speech recognition based on acoustic features

The goal of this research work is the making of a model that describes how the listener processes the acoustic speech signal and succeeds in transforming it into a sequence of phonemes. In order to eliminate an excessive dependence on intuition and the incoherences of any theoretical model, we intend to create an automatic speech recognition computer program which simulates the theoretical model. To carry it out, we will make use of the flow chart which arises from the theoretical model and from the invariant cues already dealt with in the previous project. Finally, the program will be evaluated subjecting it to real speech recognition, using the voices of a minimum of thirty male and female subjects. If the results do not coincide with those we expect, we will remake the program until achieving these results, which could affect the theoretical model at the same time.
 


Speech processing and acoustic invariation in Spanish

The objective of this investigation is to find all the acoustic invariates index in the consonants and vowels of Spanish. This implies to investigate through different speakers and dialects those components of the acoustic signal that are presented with some same characteristics of frequency and amplitude. The topic has a double interest: in the first place, to develop an acoustic-perceptive phonetics for the Castilian that is almost an unexplored field in the bibliography; in second place, to carry out a work from a great face importance to the automatic speech recognition. The study is inserted in the «theory of acoustic invariance of speech» developed, mainly, in England and United States for investigators as Blumstein, Stevens, Kewlwy-Port, Repp...
