Objectives

ParemioRom intends to explore new ways of researching Romance paremiology by studying weather proverbs and their territorial or geolinguistic dimension. Starting from the material collected in the database BADARE, which will require continued input from data extracted selectively from linguistic atlases, dialect monographs, collections of proverbs and other sources, it is hoped to create a new database that will facilitate the geolocation of proverbs and the areal interpretation of basic proverb types, such as those relating to the rainbow, a red sky, mackerel sky or mountains shrouded in cloud. Apart from this primary objective, there are others such as surveys on the boundaries of Romance Europe (Germanic and Slavic areas) and areas outside Europe (particularly Latin America), and selective fieldwork using oral sources.
